Wazir Akbar Khān
Airport Road

Wazir Akbar Khān (وزیر اکبر خان) is a neighbourhood in northern Kabul, Afghanistan. It is the wealthiest area in Kabul. Many embassies are located, including the U.S. and Canadian.[1] Wazir Akbar Khān is also home to the Kabul International Airport.

It is a common place for foreign workers to live. The streets are laid out on a grid with Western, two-story houses that date back to the 60s and 70s.[2] Like much of Kabul, the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police provide security for the area. Many of Afghanistan's national government institutions are located in the area.

Terminology

The neighborhood is named after Akbar Khan, a famous Pashtun prince during the early 1840s, a son of Emir Dost Mohammad Khan.

Akbar is Arabic for "great" and Khan means "chief" in Mongolian and Turkic languages.
